Become a Vincentian
Join a conference. Make the home visit.
Vincentians are everyday neighbors organized into parish-based conferences. The heart of the work is the home visit: two members visit a neighbor in need, listen to the whole story, and bring help and friendship — not a clipboard. It’s a deeper commitment than a single shift, and the most personal way to serve.
People of every faith and background are welcome. We’ll pair you with a conference near where you live or worship.

Get oriented & start serving
Complete a short orientation and background check, then make your first home visit alongside an experienced member.

How home visits work
Two neighbors, one kitchen table
Vincentians always visit in pairs, in the neighbor’s own home, after a call to the Help Line. They listen first, then connect the family to rent or utility help, food, and longer-term resources. The visit is about dignity and relationship as much as the assistance itself.
All home-visit volunteers are trained and background-checked.

Common questions
Before you start
- Do I need to be Catholic to volunteer?
- No. Anyone is welcome to volunteer in our pantries, stores, and program sites. Becoming a Vincentian member is open to people of goodwill who want to grow in service alongside our conferences.
- Is there a minimum time commitment?
- Not for most roles. Many neighbors start with a single shift — a backpack pack-out or a pantry sort — and decide from there. Ongoing roles and conference membership ask for a steadier rhythm.
- Do I need a background check?
- Volunteers who work directly with neighbors — especially on home visits or with children — complete a background check and a short orientation. We'll walk you through it.
- Can my company or group volunteer together?
- Yes. We host corporate and group days at our stores, pantries, and the Neyer Outreach Center. Tell us your group size and we'll match you to a project.
